Annual Professional Performance Review

APPR stands for Annual Professional Performance Review. It is the process by which teachers and principals are evaluated in New York State. The intent of APPR is to assist educators to improve the quality of instruction in schools and, in turn, to improve students’ performance and readiness for colleges and careers. Under state guidelines, APPR takes into account classroom observations and student performance.

Requests for APPR Information

INSTRUCTIONS FOR OBTAINING TEACHER/PRINCIPAL COMPOSITE SCORES
AND QUALITY RATINGS

 

Under Education Law §3012--c, parents and legal guardians may request the final quality rating and composite effectiveness score for their child's teacher(s) and/or principal.

Procedures for requesting this information are as follows:

TEACHER COMPOSITE SCORES AND QUALITY RATINGS

1. Complete the TEACHER SCORE REQUEST FORM. (CLICK HERE for PDF)

2. Information can only be provided for the teacher(s) assigned to your child for the current school year.

3. Bring the completed form to the front office of your child's school. You will be required to show photo identification (i.e., driver's license, passport, other government-issued ID).

4. Once your request is processed, you will receive a composite score report in the mail, along with an explanation of the score ranges.

5. Please note that your child's teacher(s) will only be identified by subject/title and school. No names will appear on the report.

PRINCIPAL COMPOSITE SCORES AND QUALITY RATINGS

1. Complete the PRINCIPAL SCORE REQUEST FORM. (CLICK HERE for PDF)

2. Information can only be provided for the principal of the building to which your child is assigned for the current school year.

3. Bring the completed form to the Office of Human Resources, Administration Building, 52 Third Avenue, Brentwood, NY. You will be required to show photo identification (i.e., driver's license, passport, other government-issued ID).

4. Once your request is processed, you will receive a composite score report in the mail, along with an explanation of the score ranges.

5. Please note that your child's principal will only be identified by his/her title and school. No names will appear on the report.
