Byron McCray

Director of Safety and Chief Emergency Officer

Byron McCray is an accomplished public safety leader with over 35 years of experience in emergency management, investigations, law enforcement, human services and public/school safety. He graduated John Jay College and after completing his degree, he attended Rockland County Police Academy and returned to the Kings County District Attorney’s Office (NYC TASK) as an Investigator and later continued his education with graduate studies and recieved his Juris Doctor.

In various leadership roles, including the District Attorney's Office and the Office of Special Narcotics, Byron became NYC Regional Director of Programs & Community Relations for alternative sentencing bureau within the NYS Courts, making a significant impact on the criminal justice system.

Co-founding Community Achievers and CopsNKids with his brother NYS Assembly Member the Honorable Kwani B O’Pharrow and Sister Cindy O’Pharrow, he shifted towards mentorship and community engagement.

Byron currently works for Brentwood UFSD as the Director of safety ensuring to empower our future generations and Chief of Staff at the New York State Assembly. He is a volunteer firefighter and a Ranger for the Suffolk County Park Police.  His legacy reflects a dedication to public and school safety, community support and mentorship.

Our Department

Brentwood's School Safety Department is committed to providing a safe, secure and pleasant environment for students, staff, and visitors. As the largest suburban School Districts in New York, Brentwood is protected by professionally trained and a highly knowledgeable workforce. Responsible for patrolling the 23 facilities, enforcing rules and regulations, and aiding students and staff in a variety of emergencies. Brentwood's School Safety Department maintains the professionalism and courtesy to continue to be a highly reliable entity.
