The New York State Education Department (NYSED) recently published a Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education (CRSE) Framework. According to NYSED, the CRSE framework is intended to help education stakeholders create student-centered learning environments that affirm cultural identities; foster positive academic outcomes; develop students’ abilities to connect across lines of difference; and contribute to individual student engagement, learning, growth, and achievement through the cultivation of critical thinking.
This year, the BUFSD has convened a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Team (DEIT) to explore the ways the CRSE framework can help us continuously improve the culture of our schools, including teaching and learning dynamics in the district. In the 2022-2023 school year, DEIT findings and activities will be shared broadly with the community, and opportunities for participation and engagement will expand. If you are interested in participating or have questions about the DEIT, please contact Dr. Vincent Leone in the Office of Funded Programs.
