Purpose
The Brentwood Union Free School District (“District”) is committed to student safety and to ensuring compliance with applicable laws and procedures related to the notification of sex offenders released into the community and/or residing within the District.

Legal Authority / Reference
The District shall follow the requirements and procedures established under New York State law and guidance regarding the registration and community notification of sex offenders, including but not limited to the Sex Offender Registration Act (“SORA”) and any applicable rules governing the dissemination of information received from law enforcement agencies.

When the District receives notification or information from law enforcement authorities concerning sex offenders released into the community and/or residing within the District, the Superintendent of Schools (or designee), in consultation with the District’s Security and School Safety Office, shall ensure that:

- Scope of Information
The District will post only such information as is provided by law enforcement and/or otherwise authorized for public release under applicable law and guidance. The District will not create or publish information beyond what is legally permissible.

The District website posting may include references directing community members to official New York State resources for the most current sex offender registry information.
- Administration
The Superintendent (or designee) shall be responsible for ensuring consistent implementation of this procedure and for coordinating with appropriate District personnel and law enforcement as needed.

The District shall take appropriate measures to ensure that any information posted and distributed is handled in a manner consistent with legal requirements, student safety, and privacy considerations.
