5140 Age of Entrance

(This policy replaces previously approved Board of Education Policy #5111)

Age of Entrance: Kindergarten and First Grade

  1. Initial admission to kindergarten of children capable of benefiting from instruction shall be solely on the basis of chronological age.
     
    1. A child must be at least five (5) years of age on or before December 1, following the September opening of school to be eligible to enter kindergarten that September.
       
    2. A child must be six (6) years old on or before December 1, following the September opening of school in order to be eligible for entering first grade that September unless the parent can submit evidence that the child has satisfactorily completed a year of registered kindergarten operating on a half day schedule or a half year of kindergarten operating on a full day schedule.
