The Brentwood Union Free School District will be guided by the NYSED Blueprint Principles for Educating English Language/Multilingual Learners which clarify expectations and responsibilities for all stakeholders involved in the education of English Language Learners/Multilingual Learners. The Board of Education in partnership with the Superintendent of Schools, teachers, administrators and supporting staff, will provide Bilingual and ENL services to English Language Learners/Multilingual Learners as stipulated in CR-Part 154 and CR Part 154.3. The BOE and the Superintendent of Schools will strive to achieve compliance with all the mandates outlined in the regulations.

The Board of Education and the Superintendent of Schools commits to provide administrators, teachers, students and families with the necessary resources and professional learning to ensure the academic success of ELLs/MLLs. The Superintendent’s responsibility is to promote culturally responsive teaching, socio-emotional learning and staff development to edify second language acquisition best practices, as well as utilize evidence-based curricular programs to meet the needs of the district’s multilingual population.

The Superintendent of Schools will ensure that all teachers employed for any bilingual and/or ENL program are properly certified in accordance with the Commissioner’s regulations.
