CURRICULUM ADVISORY COUNCIL BRENTWOOD PUBLIC SCHOOLS

PILOT REQUEST / PRESENTATION FORM (Revised 6-19)

The following criteria will guide the referral of a project to the Council:

1. The project deals with a sensitive or controversial area. 2. The project involves substantial budget implications. 3. The project is of general District concern. 4. Substantial change is involved. 5. Variation from the existing instructional practices controlling subject areas (individual building pilot programs). 6. New or innovative curriculum projects (pilots and or textbook adoptions).

What are the in-service implications for both the pilot and the adoption?

1. Initial rollout training and collaboration opportunities:

1. If more than one pilot, will teachers from different pilots meet?

1. How often will pilot teachers meet?

1. How often will district committee meet to evaluate pilot?

What provisions will be used for evaluation (i.e.: student growth as evidenced by…, teacher feedback, feedback from other districts)?

What are the specific roles of the personnel to be involved?

What are the facility implications if any (i.e.: devices, furniture, room arrangement, scheduling, staffing)?

Presenters:

The Curriculum Advisory Council will make appropriate recommendations to the Superintendent of Schools concerning each proposal following the trial implementation and evaluation by either:

1. Approving the proposal and recommending adoption to the Superintendent,
2. Returning the proposal to the committee for further development,
3. Disapproving the committee’s recommendation and recommending to the Superintendent that the proposal be rejected, or
4. Recommending one or more of the following:
   • Additions – Proposal needs additional information, explanations, research
   • Deletions – Deleting irrelevant matter, confusing information, , in the proposal
   • Changes – Proposal needs changes in content, language,

The guiding principle of the Curriculum Advisory Council is the development of a sound basic program of curriculum, instruction and assessment, which employs the most appropriate materials to help students learn.
