2260 District Advisory Boards

The Board of Education recognizes that it can beneficially utilize the talents, resources, and interests available among District residents to assist in developing the programs needed for the maintenance of a quality educational program in the schools of the District. To that end, the Board shall, at its discretion and in accordance with State law and regulation, establish District advisory boards, consisting of District employees and community members, to meet with the Board of Education to provide advice and reaction about, and review of important matters before the Board of Education, which may have special significance for or impact on the community.

The Board of Education, shall establish District advisory boards to address various District and education-related topics. Each advisory board shall have a chairperson appointed by the Board of Education. Each advisory board shall be comprised of no more than ten (10) members (with the final total number of members to be determined by the advisory board chairperson). The Board of Education will provide the charge of each advisory board by an official Board of Education resolution that states specifically the scope of the work of the panel.

Membership on the advisory boards shall be on the basis of interest, experience, expertise, and concern. The Board of Education shall make every effort to form an advisory board that is representative of the entire community/District.

Advisory boards shall report all suggestions and recommendations to the Board of Education and Superintendent of Schools prior to public release. Upon the sole discretion of the Board of Education, minutes from the advisory board meetings shall be delivered to the District Clerk to be placed on the agenda for information.

The Board of Education may accept, reject, or return an advisory board’s recommendations for further study. Any action stemming from an advisory board recommendation is the responsibility of the Board of Education. Publicity or the release of information concerning an advisory board’s recommendation shall be the responsibility and the prerogative of the Board of Education. Advisory boards shall be discontinued upon the discretion of the Board of Education.
