The sounds of Ranchera and Huapango music filled the Anthony F. Felicio Administration Center on the evening of Jan. 19, thanks to Northeast Elementary fifth-grader Laura Martinez.

Martinez was invited to perform at the Board of Education meeting, following her stirring rendition of "Silent Night" at the Northeast Winter Concert. She sang Aires del Mayab and Ay, Jalisco No Te Rajes, two numbers that were performed by acclaimed singer Lola Beltran.

After both performances, those in attendance gave her a standing ovation! Martinez was awarded a Certificate of Recognition for her incredible talent, as well. You can view Martinez's performances on the BOE meeting video on YouTube, beginning at the three-minute mark of the video.
