La L.I.G.A. Students Partner with Local Businesses to Showcase Digital Literacy Skills

Students in the La L.I.G.A. Saturday program celebrated their hard work and creativity on Saturday, May 3, during a special breakfast event held at North Middle School. The club, which serves bilingual 6th, 7th, and 8th graders, combines digital literacy instruction and social-emotional learning with weekly sports activities and lunch.

This year, the digital literacy component of the program focused on real-world application. Students reached out to local businesses and offered to design updated posters or menus as part of a creative project. Fiesta Rentals, Mustang Restaurant, and Chapin Barbershop all enthusiastically partnered with the students, giving them a chance to develop and present their own marketing ideas.

At Saturday’s celebration, families, students, and business representatives gathered to view the final designs and honor the winning posters. The event was a proud moment for all involved, highlighting not only students’ growing digital skills but also the supportive relationship between schools and the local community.
