Guest Column: Andres Rodriguez, Class of 2025

Dear Brentwood Faculty, Staff and Administration,

As I prepare to graduate on June 28, I find myself reflecting on the journey that began twelve years ago. With only 48 school days before graduation as of this writing, it has been an amazing 12 years in Brentwood. From my very first steps into the halls of Brentwood as a young student to now walking out ready to face the world, I carry with me the lessons, values, and moments that have shaped me into who I am today. This message is my way of expressing gratitude and saying farewell to a community that has been such a significant part of my life.

To my teachers, thank you for being more than just educators. You were mentors, motivators, and role models. You challenged me to think beyond the surface, inspired me to dream big, and pushed me to be my best, even on days when I didn’t believe in myself. Each of you played a unique role in my story, and I will carry the wisdom you shared with me for the rest of my life.

To the secretaries I’ve encountered over the years your kindness, patience, and helpfulness never went unnoticed. Whether it was helping with forms, calming nerves, or offering a warm smile at the front desk, you made every day a little easier. You are truly the heartbeat of the school buildings, and your dedication means so much more than words can express.

To the bus drivers thank you for getting me to and from school safely, no matter the weather, the traffic, or the early hours. Your responsibility is one that is often overlooked but deeply appreciated. You were the first and last part of every school day, and your consistency and care helped set the tone for each day.

To my guidance counselors thank you for being a source of support, clarity, and direction. In the moments when I felt overwhelmed or uncertain about my path, you were there to listen and guide me. Your encouragement and honest advice helped me make important decisions and reminded me of my potential.

To the administrators, thank you for working behind the scenes and on the front lines to keep our schools running smoothly and safely. Your leadership, dedication, and tireless efforts helped create an environment where we could grow and succeed. You often had the hardest jobs, and you carried them out with strength and grace.

To the Board of Education, thank you for your commitment to the future of Brentwood students. The policies and resources you provided helped shape the educational experience we received, and your investment in our success has not gone unnoticed. Because of you, I had access to opportunities that helped me discover who I want to be.

As I take this next step in my journey, I do so with a heart full of gratitude. Brentwood has been more than just a school district it has been my home. It’s where I made friends, found mentors, learned tough lessons, and grew up. The experiences I’ve had here will stay with me forever, and I will always be proud to say I’m a Brentwood graduate.

Though I am saying goodbye to the classrooms and hallways I’ve known for so long, I carry with me the people and moments that made this place so special. Thank you for believing in me, guiding me, and helping me become the person I am today. I will always be thankful for each and every one of you.

I will be pursuing an education field in the Fall of 2025 at Queens College and although I will on the other side of the island, Brentwood will always be my family, and I will continue giving back to my community and the amazing peers of the Brentwood School District.

With deepest appreciation and warmest farewell,

Andres Rodriguez
