Students from Brentwood High School recently took a trip to the New York State Capitol with members from the Long Island Latino Teachers Association (LILTA) for their annual legislative visit.
State Assemblyman Phil Ramos coordinated with LILTA to provide students with hands-on experience, allowing them to see the inner workings of state government and the power of advocacy. Students also met with Sen. Monica Martinez for an engaging discussion on democracy in action.
Billed as an annual “Leadership Trip,” students from government classes, leadership clubs, My Brother’s Keeper and the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps took the long journey to Albany to learn about what it means to govern, how to engage in the political process, and maybe even inspire them to pursue leadership someday.
