2025 NYSESLAT Notification for Parents

According to Commissioner’s Regulations CR-Part 154-2, all English Language Learners in New York State are required to take the New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test (NYSESLAT). This test assesses the English language proficiency of ELL students in Grades K-12, offering them the opportunity to exit ELL status if appropriate and ensuring continued provision of English as a New Language services.

The NYSESLAT includes multiple choice, short and long written response questions, and oral response questions in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. For more information, visit: NYSESLAT Parent Guides.

Testing Schedule:

  • Speaking Component: April 21st - May 23rd (individual students)
  • Listening, Reading, and Writing: May 12th, 13th, and 14th (groups of students)
