Boys' Varsity Soccer Commences Defense of NYS Championship with Win over North Babylon
In front of a raucous crowd on Labor Day morning, the Brentwood boys' varsity soccer team opened up the Fall 2024 season with a 1-0 victory over North Babylon.
Cristian Banegas headed home the winning tally from Nicholas Espitia with five minutes remaining in the game as Brentwood---ranked No. 3 in the nation by United Soccer Coaches going into this season---won its 23rd consecutive contest dating back to last year's perfect season that culminated in the New York State Class AAA varsity championship.
Brian Acosta recorded a clean sheet with three saves for Brentwood as the team opened its brand-new turf facility with the shutout win. Brentwood will host Newfield on Sept. 3 at 4:00 p.m.
