The Brentwood Union Free School District has appointed Kristen Fehr-Thompson as Coordinator of English Language Arts (K-12) and Social Studies.

“As I begin this new role in the Brentwood school community, I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside dedicated educators, families, and staff who are committed to ensuring every student develops the literacy skills and critical thinking necessary for success,” she said. “Together, we will advance equity, inspire a love of learning, and prepare students to become informed, engaged citizens who contribute meaningfully to their communities and the world around them.”

Fehr-Thompson brings more than 15 years of experience in public education, with a strong background in curriculum development, instructional leadership and literacy education.

Most recently, she served as K-12 director of humanities in the South Country Central School District, where she led districtwide initiatives in English language arts and social studies while supporting curriculum, professional learning and instructional programs.

Before joining district administration, Fehr-Thompson served as department lead for grades 9-12 English at Bellport High School and taught English and Advanced Placement Seminar for more than a decade. She helped launch her district's AP Capstone program, led curriculum development aligned with the New York State Next Generation Learning Standards and Science of Reading initiatives and facilitated professional development focused on literacy instruction and student achievement.

Throughout her career, Fehr-Thompson has worked to strengthen instructional practices through data-informed decision-making, curriculum design and collaboration with educators. She has also presented at conferences for the Long Island Language Arts Council and the National Council of Teachers of English, sharing strategies to support literacy instruction and student success.

Fehr-Thompson holds professional New York State certifications as a school district leader, school building leader, English teacher for grades 7-12 and reading teacher for birth through grade 12. She earned a Master of Science in teaching literacy from Touro University, advanced certificates in school administration and leadership from The College of Saint Rose and teaching English to speakers of other languages from Molloy University.  She also completed a Science of Reading microcredential through SUNY New Paltz.
