Summer music program strikes a chord at South Middle School

Walk through the doors of South Middle School this July, and you’re greeted not by silence, but by sound.

Rhythmic drumbeats thunder from one classroom. Down the hall, woodwinds and brass layer harmonies that echo through the corridors. In another space, musical theater students rehearse lines and choreography, while young artists quietly create in studios nearby.

It’s all part of the 2025 four-week Summer Music Program – a dynamic, immersive experience for Brentwood students in grades six through 12. The program invites students to deepen their skills in band, orchestra, musical theater and art under the guidance of trained professionals.

Participants spend their days exploring technique, building foundational skills, and engaging in collaborative creative projects. Whether refining a scale or staging a scene, each student is challenged to grow – musically, artistically and personally – in a supportive and high-energy environment.

The program also offers opportunities for students to build friendships and connect across grade levels, turning shared rehearsal time into a sense of community. Breakfast and lunch are provided free of charge, helping ensure students are fueled for full days of learning and performance.

As the program continues through the end of the month, South Middle School remains a hub of creativity – filled with the sights and sounds of a summer well spent.
