Laurel Park Teacher Earns National Board Certification

Naomi Franko, a third-grade bilingual teacher at Laurel Park Elementary School, has earned National Board Certification, the most respected professional certification for educators in the nation, completing the rigorous process in just one year. The achievement recognizes Franko’s deep content knowledge, instructional practice and commitment to student learning and places her among a distinguished group of educators nationwide.

“Completing my National Board Certification was a challenging but incredibly rewarding experience that pushed me to reflect deeply on my practice and grow as an educator,” Franko said. “I pursued this process to strengthen my impact on students and ensure I’m continually learning and improving. Through it, I gained valuable insight into intentional instruction, meaningful assessment, and the importance of reflective teaching.”

The district credits the leadership and support of Teacher Center Director Ann Lackner and Brentwood Teacher Association President Kevin Coyne for their continued commitment to excellence in education. Including Franko, Brentwood is now proud to have five National Board-Certified Teachers: Lauren Neusy, Lauren Gaffary, Holly O’Keefe and Jennifer Goldhaber – with another seven slated to soon pursue the designation.

“Naomi, you inspire us all, and I am deeply grateful for your commitment to the teaching profession and to the betterment of our students,” said Superintendent Wanda Ortiz-Rivera.
