Laurel Park Elementary Explores Black History Through Song

Students at Brentwood’s Laurel Park Elementary were recently swept into the rhythms and stories of Black history with a visit from Jamel Hudson, Ph.D., a Baruch College lecturer and Long Island advocate. Through soulful renditions of “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” Marvin Gaye classics and Bob Marley favorites, Hudson transformed the gym into a vibrant, interactive classroom where music became history. Students laughed, danced and connected with the cultural and historical significance of the songs, leaving inspired and energized by the experience.
