Brentwood Students Win Big at Statewide Art Competition

Brentwood students recently earned multiple top honors at the 44th annual New York State Art Teachers Association Olympics of the Visual Arts competition in Saratoga Springs, where more than 200 teams from across the state showcased creative problem-solving and artistic talent. 

Over the course of three months, Brentwood students collaborated on projects in drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, illustration and fashion design, demonstrating creativity, teamwork and perseverance throughout the process. 

In the Fashion category, North Elementary students Keisha Flores, Elena Ramos, Brittany Pineda Cruz, McKenzie Burton and Giselle Alfaro earned third place under the direction of teacher Maria Pontillo. 

East Middle School students Daniella Diaz Reyes and Julissa Alfaro Segovia captured first place in Photography with teacher Jennifer Grasso-Moise. 

In Illustration, Brentwood High School students Alisson Bonilla, Areba Ehsan, Kara Seyda and Maritza Prescod earned third place under teacher Jae Won Shim. Twin Pines Elementary students Farianny Bautista Medina, Matias Aguilar Ceballos and Anderson Alvarez Hernandez also placed third with teacher Crystal Cavanaugh. 

Southwest Elementary students Augustina Miranda, Anisurya Driyo-Soetono, Jesiah Salgado, Tristan Graham, Alex Matos, Daniella Gomez and Eniola Akinlou earned third place in Sculpture under teacher Brady Wilkins. East Middle School students Jhony Alvarado Maradiaga, Giselle Alfaro Lopez, Jennifer Acosta Amaya, Naomi Flores Espinal and Elisanny Rosario Amarante won first place in the same category with Jennifer Grasso-Moise. 

East Middle School also earned first place in Painting. Students Aaliyah Baires, Jazmyn Rodriguez, Lucia Vargas Rodriguez and Sean Adu worked under the guidance of teachers Jennifer Grasso-Moise and Stephanie Veitsman. 

Additional Brentwood High School and East Middle School teams participated in the Drawing and Painting categories, representing the district throughout the statewide competition. 

The district is incredibly proud of this stunning achievement, and continues to support young artist voices.
