Brentwood senior takes first place in bilingual art contest
A celebration of culture, creativity and inclusion took center stage as Brentwood High School senior Ember Luis Castillo Mauricio recently earned first place in the high school division of the New York State Association for Bilingual Education Student Art Contest.
Brentwood welcomed NYSABE President Dr. Shirley Vargas to recognize Ember for the achievement and celebrate the award-winning artwork, “International ‘Food Is The World’ Street Fest.”
Inspired by the quote, “Diversity is being invited to the party; inclusion is being asked to dance,” the piece highlights multiculturalism through food, music and community while emphasizing the importance of belonging and inclusion.
Ember’s artwork was recognized for its powerful message and creative expression, reflecting the district’s commitment to celebrating diverse voices and perspectives.
