Brentwood Hosts Annual Northwell Community Food Distribution

More than 1,000 local families received fresh food and household staples during the Northwell Community Food Distribution event held Saturday, Nov. 22, at Brentwood High School.

The distribution, hosted by the Brentwood School District, was supported by Northwell Health and several community partners, including the Suffolk County Women’s Alliance, West Islip Bridges, Lessing’s Hospitality Group, Broadway Heights Dairy and HealthFirst. Families received fresh produce, poultry, and dairy products as part of the ongoing effort to address food insecurity and support vulnerable households.

During the event, Deputy Police Commissioner Belinda Alvarez presented the district with a certificate recognizing the partnership between the Suffolk County Police Department and the Brentwood community. District officials said the acknowledgment reflects years of collaboration aimed at strengthening trust, safety, and community engagement.

Superintendent Wanda Ortiz-Rivera said the day’s efforts highlighted the district’s values of service and unity.

“What took place this past weekend reflects the very best of our district, with students serving with pride, staff stepping forward without hesitation, and families supporting one another with kindness,” Ortiz-Rivera said. “I am deeply grateful to every person who contributed to this moment of care and connection. Together, we continue to create a community where every family feels seen, supported and valued.”

District staff, administrators, volunteers, and members of the AFJROTC assisted with organizing and distributing supplies.
